Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph Pay Homage to Variety Shows

Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph are not just friends and former Saturday Night Live cast members–they’re also huge fans of variety shows. Luckily, Maya Rudolph now has her own variety show on NBC, so she and Tina have a venue to share their love of variety shows with a wider audience. Armed with the essential variety show props of stools and skinny ’70s microphones, Maya and Tina worked their way through some of their favorite memories of variety shows of the past. While we’ve always known Maya has a strong singing voice, it was nice to see Tina belt out a few tunes and even display a pretty good Joni Mitchell impression.

While we think a true variety show is going to be a bit of a tough sell these days, Maya Rudolph and Martin Short are giving it their best shot with Maya and Marty. They’re certainly not lacking on guest talent, as they’ve already had guest appearances from other huge stars like Jimmy Fallon, Tom Hanks, and Larry David. Speaking of Larry David, we didn’t get around to posting this because we were on vacation when it aired, but you really need to watch the Jiminy Glick interview with Larry David. We don’t think we’ve ever seen Larry David laugh that hard.
