If you’re reading this, you already know that the fifth season of Veep has absolutely killed it so far. As usual, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is phenomenal as now-president Selina Meyer as she struggles to both stay president and, you know, run the country. But that’s not all that’s happening. One of our favorite subplots of the season has been the
Jon H Jonah Ryan for Congress campaign. Along with Richard (Sam Richardson) and Dan (Reid Scott), Jonah (Timothy Simon) has waged a surprisingly effective campaign (at least until this week).
Jonah’s campaign even has an impressively realistic looking website, which features his story, some truly fantastic pictures of Jonah through the years, helpful links about New Hampshire, and, best of all, campaign ads.
The ads, some of which were seen on Veep, feature Jonah wandering around the New Hampshire woods, trying to look rugged. He wears a flannel shirt and a vest and talks about fixing sick bald eagles and he sometimes carries an axe, which isn’t terrifying at all. He wants you to know that he’s listening and he’s the only “outsider with an insider’s knowledge” who can fix Washington, D.C.
We’re not American, but we have a feeling that Jonah’s ads are far from the worst ones that will air this election season. At least we know these ones are intentionally funny. Enjoy!
