The Tony Awards airs on Sunday, June 12. The host this year is James Corden, but the real star is, of course, Hamilton, which has a record-breaking 16 nominations. So it was inevitable that the creator and star of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, would join James Corden in a New York version of Carpool Karaoke. James and Lin sang parts of “Alexander Hamilton” and “Guns and Ships” with James Corden showing some impressive rapping abilities as he took on the part of the Marquis de Lafayette and performed the “fastest rap on Broadway”.
James and Lin were then joined by fellow Broadway-ers Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jane Krakowski. Although Jesse and Jane are better known for their sitcom work, they’re both appearing on Broadway this summer. The quintet sang along to Broadway classics like Rent‘s “Seasons of Love” and Les Miserable‘s “One Day More”.
It wasn’t necessarily the funniest Carpool Karaoke there’s ever been, but watching a group of talented Broadway people belt out a few show tunes is a pretty good way to start your Tuesday morning.
