Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg was on The Tonight Show last night to catch up with Jimmy Fallon and promote his new movie, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The bulk of the interview was made up of Jimmy Fallon laughing at how funny the movie was (which no one else has seen yet), which made it a little bit difficult to follow at times. Still, from what we got out of it (and what we know about it from the trailer), Andy and the other Lonely Island guys (Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) have created a crazy film full of pop culture references and cameos. The’ve also written new songs for the movie, so we suppose the movie soundtrack is just like a new Lonely Island album, so we can definitely get on board with that.
Andy, Jorma, and Akiva joined Jimmy and The Roots to play one of The Lonely Island’s biggest hits, “I’m On A Boat.” There was something just delightful about playing such a silly song on silly instruments and substituting the swear words with things like “mother humping”. It just made us smile. The best part was obviously Jorma in a dunce cap reading about “The Joy of Land”.
Andy also played Catchphrase with Gigi Hadid and Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper. Turns out, Bryce Harper is a big fat cheater at Catchphrase. The MLB commissioner might want to keep an eye on him.
