In our opinions there isn’t anyone funnier than Norm Macdonald. No matter where we see him, we find him funny. Now, Norm is writing a memoir titled, Based on a True Story. It is scheduled for a fall 2016 release.

A lot of comedians have been releasing books recently and there are several others slated for the coming year. Of them all, this is the one we have been waiting for the longest. Norm Macdonald is not only hilarious, but has led an interesting comedy life. From his upbringing in rural Quebec to his time at SNL and the work he has done since, there is a lot of interesting source material to work with, we’re sure.

The one thing about Norm Macdonald is that as funny as he is on screen, we don’t know a whole lot about his personal life. Controversy may find Norm, but it is mostly as a result of things that he says on stage. His dangerous comedy has put him in the crosshairs of critics in the past, but we know little about what life is like for him when he isn’t making us laugh. While we doubt that the book will get really personal, Norm has described the book as “an unflicing account of how the dirty little business of big-time comedy works.” Given Norm’s history and his willing to tell it how he sees it, Based on a True Story should be fascinating both for fans of his and comedy fans in general.

What is interesting about Norm’s book is that it is being categorized as a memoir. With few exceptions, most of the books written by comedians recently have taken slices of their lives and used it as source material much like how they would with their stand-up act. By going the memoir route, Norm will be able to tell his story the way he wants to tell it rather than waiting for someone else to tell it for him.

Update: Based on a True Story will be released on September 20, 2016.
